Experience
I am an experienced and passionate teacher. I have taught at Princeton, the University of Iowa, and Washington University in St. Louis. I would be delighted to work with students of all grade levels and backgrounds, from middle school through college. My teaching experience at the college level involves extensive one-on-one mentoring with undergraduate and graduate students. I have focused especially on teaching writing skills, effective research and argumentation, and the joy of written expression. The many courses that I taught all required students to read material from diverse backgrounds, build a solid understanding of it, and use it to present well-supported arguments in writing. My writing has been published in scholarly journals; I have also written extensively for a general interest web magazine, and have published a book of short stories. My scholarly background is interdisciplinary and very diverse, and has prepared me to offer academic support broadly in the humanities and social sciences, especially in English and history. I have lived and studied in Japan and France, and would be happy to provide support for students of French and Japanese.
